Novavax's Clostridioides difficile vaccine is a preclinical candidate designed for the prevention of C. difficile colitis. The vaccine is constructed using Novavax's proprietary recombinant protein nanoparticle technology platform and is formulated with the Matrix-M adjuvant. Matrix-M is a saponin-based adjuvant derived from the bark of the *Quillaja saponaria* tree, which enhances the immune response by activating both the innate and adaptive immune systems. The vaccine aims to induce protective immunity against *C. difficile* infection, a major cause of healthcare-associated diarrhea and colitis. As of 2024, the program remains in preclinical development, with Novavax targeting a transition to clinical trials by 2027 and seeking potential partners for future commercialization.
