Overview
**Mecloderm Ointment** is a topical fixed-dose combination of the azole antifungal clotrimazole and the synthetic glucocorticoid betamethasone dipropionate. It is being developed by Dermapharm for moderate to severely inflamed cutaneous candidiasis; the Phase III EU CTIS study compares Mecloderm Ointment with Lotricomb Ointment and vehicle. Clotrimazole inhibits fungal lanosterol 14-alpha demethylase, disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis and fungal cell-membrane integrity, while betamethasone dipropionate activates the glucocorticoid receptor to suppress local inflammatory symptoms such as erythema and pruritus.
