Clotrimazole + dexamethasone acetate is a topical combination drug consisting of clotrimazole, an imidazole-class broad-spectrum antifungal, and dexamethasone acetate, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Clotrimazole disrupts fungal cell membrane synthesis by inhibiting lanosterol 14α-demethylase, leading to increased membrane permeability and fungal cell death. Dexamethasone acetate exerts an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effect by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, suppressing the inflammatory response, and inhibiting cytokine activation. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of mixed fungal and inflammatory dermatoses or for fungal skin infections where inflammation and itching are present, such as tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis. The formulation allows rapid relief of inflammatory symptoms while treating the underlying fungal infection[1].
