Clotrimazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes, thereby stopping fungal growth. Metronidazole is a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent that works by entering microbial cells and generating free radicals which damage DNA, leading to cell death. This combination targets both fungal pathogens (such as Candida species) and anaerobic bacteria commonly implicated in vaginitis[5]. It is typically administered intravaginally as tablets or gel.
