Overview

CNTO 888 is a human monoclonal antibody that targets and neutralizes the chemokine CCL2 (also known as MCP-1), which is implicated in tumor progression and resistance to chemotherapy. Paclitaxel is a microtubule-stabilizing agent that inhibits cell division by preventing microtubule depolymerization, while carboplatin is a platinum-based alkylating agent that causes DNA crosslinking and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. The combination of CNTO 888 with paclitaxel and carboplatin has been investigated for its potential to enhance the efficacy of standard chemotherapy regimens—particularly in ovarian cancer—by inhibiting CCL2-mediated mechanisms of drug resistance and tumor growth. This approach aims to improve outcomes in cancers where high levels of CCL2 are associated with poor response to conventional therapies[2][6].
