Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Replenate is a high-purity, plasma-derived human coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) concentrate indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of hemorrhage in patients with congenital factor VIII deficiency (hemophilia A). Developed and manufactured by Bio Products Laboratory (BPL) and historically distributed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the United Kingdom, Replenate is purified from human plasma using chromatography and undergoes viral inactivation via solvent/detergent treatment and dry heat. As a replacement therapy, it provides the essential cofactor required for the activation of factor X by factor IXa in the intrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade, thereby restoring effective hemostasis. It has been the subject of post-marketing studies evaluating the incidence and epitope specificity of factor VIII inhibitors in previously treated patients.
