Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Codylex-T is an oral combination formulation containing the opioid cough suppressant codeine (as codeine phosphate) and the first-generation antihistamine triprolidine (as triprolidine hydrochloride). Developed and marketed by Anglo-French Drugs & Industries, it is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry, irritating, and allergic coughs, as well as coughs associated with the common cold or upper respiratory allergies. Codeine acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla oblongata to suppress the cough reflex, while triprolidine blocks histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergy-mediated symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes.
