Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapy of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and Glutathione is being investigated by George Washington University for the prevention of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI). CoQ10 is an endogenous antioxidant that functions in mitochondrial energy production, while glutathione is a naturally occurring antioxidant. The combination targets oxidative stress, inflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction that contribute to acute kidney injury following elective cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. The treatment aims to prevent kidney damage through antiperoxidative, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms. The therapy is currently being evaluated in the Phase 2 Prevent CSA-AKI Trial.
