This is a combination therapy consisting of colchicine, a well-established anti-inflammatory small molecule drug, and herbal-derived phenolic monoterpene fractions. The combination has been studied as an adjunctive treatment for COVID-19. Colchicine acts primarily by inhibiting microtubule polymerization and suppressing the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway, thereby reducing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Phenolic monoterpenes—such as those extracted from Nigella sativa and Trachyspermum ammi—are plant secondary metabolites with known antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunomodulatory properties. These compounds can bind to proteins via their hydroxyl or aldehyde groups and may interfere with viral entry/replication or modulate immune responses[1][3][4][5]. Clinical studies suggest that this combination reduces mortality rates, ICU admissions, and hospitalization duration in hospitalized COVID-19 patients when added to standard care[1][5]. No significant side effects have been reported in clinical trials.
