This is a combination therapy of **colestilan** and a **calcium-based phosphate binder**. Colestilan is a non-absorbed, non-calcium, non-metallic anion-exchange polymer that binds dietary phosphate and bile acids in the gastrointestinal tract, lowering serum phosphorus levels in chronic kidney disease patients with hyperphosphatemia. It also lowers LDL cholesterol and uric acid and modestly reduces HbA1c in patients with diabetes. Calcium-based phosphate binders act by supplying calcium that directly binds and precipitates dietary phosphate in the gut, further reducing intestinal phosphate absorption. Combination therapy may be considered when monotherapy is insufficient for phosphate control in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. The combination targets hyperphosphatemia in CKD and end-stage renal disease, a condition managed to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with mineral bone disorder and vascular calcification in CKD[1][2][4].
