colestimide + pravastatin

Colestimide + pravastatin is a combination therapy consisting of colestimide, a bile acid sequestrant, and pravastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). This combination is used to treat hypercholesterolemia and related lipid disorders. Colestimide works by binding bile acids in the intestine, preventing their reabsorption and promoting cholesterol excretion. Pravastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, reducing cholesterol synthesis. The combined use results in additive reductions of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels compared to either agent alone. This regimen is primarily indicated for patients with severe hypercholesterolemia or those who do not achieve target lipid levels with monotherapy[1][7]. The combination may also be considered for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular events.
