Compound 7b is an investigational small molecule phenoxyacetic acid derivative developed by researchers at King Saud University and Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. It is being studied as a multifunctional antiepileptic and anti-inflammatory agent. In preclinical studies, Compound 7b demonstrated superior efficacy compared to the reference drug valproic acid, providing complete seizure protection and 100% survival in pentylenetetrazol-induced and pilocarpine-induced seizure models. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction of hippocampal oxidative stress, suppression of neuroinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), attenuation of glutamate accumulation, and downregulation of glial activation markers including glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1). Safety evaluations in animal models have shown no evidence of hepatic, renal, or cardiac toxicity at high doses.
