Overview

KH903 (conbercept) in combination with paclitaxel is an investigational therapeutic regimen being developed by Chengdu Kanghong Biotech for the treatment of advanced gastric adenocarcinoma and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) adenocarcinoma. Conbercept is a recombinant fusion protein biologic that functions as a VEGF trap; it is composed of the second immunoglobulin-like domain of VEGF receptor 1 (VEGFR1) and the third and fourth domains of VEGF receptor 2 (VEGFR2) fused to the Fc fragment of human IgG1. This decoy receptor binds with high affinity to VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF), thereby inhibiting tumor angiogenesis and depriving the tumor of necessary blood supply and nutrients. Paclitaxel is a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent that stabilizes microtubules, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. The combination is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials as a second-line treatment for patients who have progressed after initial platinum and fluoropyrimidine-based therapy.
