Overview
CEE + MP is a combination hormone replacement therapy (HRT) consisting of conjugated equine estrogens (CEE) and micronized progesterone (MP). CEE is a complex mixture of estrogenic compounds, primarily sodium estrone sulfate and sodium equilin sulfate, extracted from the urine of pregnant mares. It acts as an agonist at estrogen receptors to alleviate vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes, treat vaginal atrophy, and prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women. MP is a bioidentical form of progesterone that acts as an agonist at progesterone receptors. Its primary role in this combination is to provide endometrial protection by opposing estrogen-induced proliferation of the uterine lining, thereby reducing the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer in women with an intact uterus. This specific combination has been evaluated in clinical trials, such as those conducted by Peking Union Medical College Hospital, to optimize dosing regimens for menopause syndrome.
