Convalescent plasma is a biological therapy consisting of plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 and developed antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This specific intervention is being evaluated by the National Institute of Health Research and Development of the Indonesian Ministry of Health as an adjunct therapy for hospitalized patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. The mechanism involves the passive transfer of neutralizing antibodies and other proteins to the recipient, which can help neutralize the virus, reduce viral load, and modulate the immune response. The PlaSenTer trial is a Phase 2/3 randomized, open-label study conducted in Indonesia to assess safety and clinical outcomes in a low-to-middle-income country (LMIC) setting.
