Convalescent plasma (CP-COVID19) is a passive immunotherapy approach developed and evaluated by the Universidad del Rosario for the treatment of hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19. This therapy involves the transfusion of plasma collected from individuals who have successfully recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The plasma contains high titers of neutralizing antibodies that specifically target the viral spike protein, thereby preventing viral entry into host cells and facilitating viral clearance through the recipient's immune system. The Universidad del Rosario conducted a randomized, single-blinded clinical trial (NCT04374487) to assess the efficacy and safety of this intervention when administered alongside standard institutional care protocols.
