Copper + propranolol refers to experimental therapeutic platforms that combine copper ions with the non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist propranolol. These formulations are primarily being investigated in two distinct forms: as a nanoparticle system (Cu-PN NPs) for cancer immunotherapy and as a topical hydrogel (PNL@GA-Cu) for wound healing. In the context of colorectal cancer, the nanoparticles are designed to induce copper-dependent cell death (cuproptosis) and immunogenic cell death (ICD) while simultaneously blocking the ADRB1 receptor on T cells to reverse exhaustion and enhance anti-tumor immunity. In the context of regenerative medicine, the copper-cross-linked hydrogel acts as an anti-sympathetic agent, where propranolol antagonizes norepinephrine to regulate the sympathetic nervous system response in infected burn wounds, thereby accelerating tissue repair.
