CORAVAX is an inactivated rabies virus-vectored vaccine candidate developed by Thomas Jefferson University in collaboration with Bharat Biotech to prevent COVID-19. The vaccine utilizes a proven, inactivated rabies vaccine platform to express the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein on its surface. This approach leverages the established safety profile and manufacturing infrastructure of rabies vaccines, potentially offering a more accessible vaccination option in regions where rabies is endemic. Preclinical studies demonstrated that CORAVAX induces high levels of neutralizing antibodies and provides protection against SARS-CoV-2 challenge in animal models. It is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials to assess its safety and immunogenicity in humans.
