Corifollitropin alfa + recombinant follicle stimulating hormone is a combination of two gonadotropins used in controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) for women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures such as in vitro fertilization. Corifollitropin alfa is a long-acting fusion protein that acts as a follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) agonist, designed to stimulate the development of multiple ovarian follicles with a single injection lasting up to seven days, reducing the need for daily injections. Recombinant FSH (rFSH), such as follitropin alfa, is administered daily and mimics endogenous FSH activity to promote follicular growth. Both agents bind and activate the Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) on ovarian granulosa cells, leading to increased estrogen production and oocyte maturation. Corifollitropin alfa achieves its prolonged action by fusing the C-terminal peptide of human chorionic gonadotropin beta-subunit to the beta-subunit of FSH, resulting in slower absorption and longer half-life compared with standard rFSH[1][2][5][6]. The primary indication for this combination is infertility treatment through ART protocols.
