Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The coronavirus-like particle covid-19 vaccine + CpG 1018 is a recombinant protein subunit or virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine candidate displaying the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein on its surface, designed to induce immune protection against COVID-19. CpG 1018 is a potent synthetic oligodeoxynucleotide adjuvant acting as a Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist and enhances Th1-type immune responses, including induction of neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity. The CpG 1018 adjuvant shifts the immune response away from Th2 bias (which can be associated with vaccine-induced pathology) toward robust, Th1-dominant immunity, supporting more effective and safer protection. The VLP and spike antigens can be produced in plants or mammalian cells, depending on the formulation. The vaccine is under clinical investigation for prevention of COVID-19 and has demonstrated acceptable safety and strong immunogenicity in early-phase human and preclinical studies, including cross-neutralization against certain SARS-CoV-2 variants[1][2][5][3][7].
