Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapy consists of a corticosteroid and eltrombopag, primarily utilized in the management of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Corticosteroids, such as prednisone or dexamethasone, are standard first-line immunosuppressive agents that reduce the immune-mediated destruction of platelets. Eltrombopag is a small-molecule, non-peptide thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA) that binds to the transmembrane domain of the TPO receptor, stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes to increase platelet production. This specific therapeutic approach is being evaluated by Assiut University to understand how the prevalence and treatment of thyroid disorders impact the clinical response to these agents in ITP patients.
