CORVax12 is a DNA-based vaccine candidate developed by Providence Health & Services in partnership with OncoSec Medical and the Providence Cancer Center for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine consists of a plasmid encoding the NIH-designed stabilized trimeric SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) glycoprotein (CORVax) and is administered in combination with tavokinogene telseplasmid (TAVO), which is a plasmid encoding the immuno-stimulatory cytokine interleukin-12 (pIL-12). Delivery is achieved through electroporation, typically using the Cliniporator system, to facilitate the entry of the DNA plasmids into host cells. Once inside, the cells express the spike protein to trigger a coordinated humoral and cellular immune response, while the expressed IL-12 acts as a genetic adjuvant to enhance the magnitude and quality of the immune response.
