Corynebacterium diphtheriae toxoid antigen (formaldehyde inactivated) is a toxoid vaccine component used for active immunization against diphtheria, a serious infectious disease caused by the bacterium *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*. The diphtheria toxin, which is responsible for the severe symptoms of the disease, is purified from the bacteria and then inactivated with formaldehyde. This chemical treatment renders the toxin non-toxic while preserving its antigenic properties. When administered, this inactivated toxoid stimulates the immune system to produce specific antibodies and antitoxins. These antibodies can then neutralize the actual diphtheria toxin if an individual is exposed to the bacterium, thereby preventing the development of diphtheria. It is a widely used and effective component in various combination vaccines, such as DTaP, Tdap, DTP, and DT, which protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and often pertussis.
