Overview

COVAXIN + BBV154 is a heterologous prime-boost COVID-19 vaccination regimen developed by Bharat Biotech International Ltd. The strategy involves an intramuscular prime dose of COVAXIN (BBV152), a whole-virion inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, followed by an intranasal booster dose of BBV154 (iNCOVACC), a chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored vaccine encoding the pre-fusion stabilized spike protein. This combination is designed to elicit both systemic IgG and mucosal IgA immune responses, providing broader protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants. The regimen has received restricted emergency use approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for adults aged 18 years and above.
