COVID-19 convalescent plasma developed by Brigham and Women's Hospital, in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, is a passive polyclonal antibody biologic therapy. It consists of plasma collected from donors who have recovered from COVID-19, containing high titers of SARS-CoV-2-specific neutralizing antibodies targeting the viral spike and nucleocapsid proteins. The therapy was evaluated in the Phase 3 ESCAPE (Evaluation of the SARS-CoV-2 Antibody-containing Plasma thErapy) trial to determine its efficacy in improving clinical outcomes for hospitalized patients with moderate COVID-19 by neutralizing the virus and modulating the immune response.
