COVID-19 Inactivated Vaccine (Vero Cell) refers to a group of inactivated whole-virus vaccines developed to prevent COVID-19. These vaccines are produced by propagating the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vero cell cultures, followed by chemical inactivation (typically with beta-propiolactone) and purification. The resulting inactivated virus particles are formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. Upon intramuscular administration, the vaccine presents the entire array of viral proteins—including the spike (S), envelope (E), membrane (M), and nucleocapsid (N) proteins—to the immune system, inducing the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses. Prominent examples include the BIBP vaccine (COVILO) and the Sinovac vaccine (CoronaVac), both of which received WHO Emergency Use Listing.
