Drug intelligence / Profile preview
COVIVAC + CpG 1018 is a **combination recombinant protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine** that uses the COVIVAC antigen—a stabilized prefusion SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (recombinant protein)—adjuvanted with CpG 1018, a synthetic oligodeoxynucleotide that acts as a toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9) agonist. CpG 1018 is used to bias the immune response towards a Th1 profile, enhancing cellular immunity and boosting antibody responses. COVIVAC has been developed by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) in Vietnam. The addition of CpG 1018, developed by Dynavax, is intended to further improve immunogenicity, antibody titers, and shift the response away from Th2, reducing the risk of adverse immune reactions such as eosinophilic infiltration. Clinical studies indicate this formulation is safe, with mostly mild adverse events, and induces robust neutralizing antibody and IgG responses in adults[4][6][1][2].
