Overview

CpG 1018-adjuvanted pandemic influenza vaccine (H5N1) is an investigational, monovalent H5N1 influenza vaccine program developed by Dynavax. It presents H5N1 hemagglutinin antigen to induce protective influenza-specific immunity and incorporates Dynavax's CpG 1018, a Toll-like receptor 9 agonist adjuvant intended to amplify innate and adaptive immune responses. Dynavax initiated the program as a pandemic-influenza proof of concept; Part 1 of its randomized Phase 1/2 study enrolled and dosed 101 adults aged 18–49 years in 2025, and a subsequent registered Phase 2 dose-finding study evaluates one- and two-dose intramuscular H5N1 hemagglutinin formulations containing CpG 1018, with some study arms also containing alum.
