Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cross-linked hyaluronic acid + coenzyme Q10 is a topical ophthalmic solution developed by Visufarma, primarily marketed under the brand name VisuXL. It is indicated for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) and for promoting corneal healing following ocular surgeries such as LASIK and cataract extraction. The formulation combines cross-linked hyaluronic acid (XLHA), which provides superior lubrication and a longer residence time on the ocular surface compared to standard linear hyaluronic acid, with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), a potent antioxidant. CoQ10 acts by neutralizing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting the opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pores (mPTP), thereby preventing cell apoptosis and supporting nerve regeneration. In some versions, Vitamin E TPGS is utilized as a vehicle to enhance the delivery of the lipophilic CoQ10. The product is classified as a medical device in Europe.
