Overview

This combination therapy involves the sequential administration of cryoablation and cyclophosphamide for the treatment of advanced solid epithelial cancers. Cryoablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses extreme cold to induce tumor cell necrosis, which is hypothesized to release tumor-associated antigens and stimulate an immune response. Cyclophosphamide, a nitrogen mustard alkylating agent, is subsequently administered to inhibit the division of remaining cancer cells and potentially deplete regulatory T cells, thereby enhancing the systemic anti-tumor immunity initiated by the cryoablation. This specific protocol was investigated in a Phase 1 pilot study by the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.
