CryoStor CS10 + physiologic solution is an experimental combination therapy developed by Copenhagen University Hospital for the treatment of hypertrophic scars. CryoStor CS10 is a commercially available, protein-free, and serum-free cryopreservation medium containing 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), which is mixed in a 1:1 ratio with a physiologic solution (typically 0.9% sodium chloride) for intralesional injection. This treatment is administered as a pretreatment prior to intralesional cryotherapy. The mechanism of action relies on the cryoprotective properties of DMSO, which penetrates the scar tissue and modulates the formation of ice crystals during the freezing process. This modulation is intended to optimize the destruction of the dense collagen fibers characteristic of hypertrophic scars while potentially protecting surrounding healthy tissue, thereby enhancing the clinical efficacy and safety of the cryosurgical procedure.
