Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**CS2009 + etoposide** is an experimental combination therapy comprised of CS2009, which is a bcl-2 antisense oligodeoxynucleotide (AS ODN 2009), and etoposide, a small molecule chemotherapeutic agent. CS2009 (AS ODN 2009) targets the bcl-2 mRNA to reduce the expression of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein, thereby sensitizing cancer cells to cytotoxic agents. Etoposide inhibits DNA topoisomerase II, resulting in DNA breaks and cell death, particularly in the G2 and S phases of the cell cycle. This combination is being investigated for the treatment of cancers—most notably small cell lung cancer—that overexpress Bcl-2, as preclinical data show that CS2009 and etoposide act synergistically to enhance cytotoxic effects on such tumors[3][9].
