Overview

csDMARDs + NSAIDs is a combination drug regimen used primarily for the treatment of inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis. This regimen combines conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs), which act by broadly suppressing the immune system to reduce inflammation and prevent joint damage, with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which provide rapid relief of pain and inflammation by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes and decreasing prostaglandin synthesis. csDMARDs—such as methotrexate, leflunomide, hydroxychloroquine, sulfasalazine, and azathioprine—slow the progression of disease and minimize long-term joint destruction. NSAIDs (including ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, and celecoxib) rapidly control symptoms but do not prevent disease progression or joint damage. The combination is often used at diagnosis and early in disease management, with NSAIDs providing short-term symptomatic relief while csDMARDs take effect over weeks to months[2][3][4][5][6][7].
