Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cultured artificial red blood cells (human) is a cell therapy product being developed by RedGene, a South Korean biotechnology company. The product consists of cultured human red blood cells (cRBC) derived from human immortalized red blood cell progenitors, intended for use in blood transfusions as an alternative to donor-derived blood. RedGene leverages gene editing and stem cell technologies to produce these artificial red blood cells, aiming to address blood shortages, rare blood group supply limitations, and the risks associated with conventional blood donation-based transfusion systems. Additionally, RedGene envisions this platform as a foundation for a cRBC-based drug delivery system targeting blood-related diseases, cancers, cardiovascular/metabolic diseases, and brain diseases.
