Overview

Curcumin + cyclosporine is a combination of two active ingredients: curcumin, a natural polyphenol derived from turmeric with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and potential immunomodulatory properties, and cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant that inhibits calcineurin and T-cell activation. This combination has been investigated primarily in preclinical models for various indications, particularly autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Studies have focused on advanced formulations, such as nanoemulgels for topical delivery and bioadhesive pellets for colon targeting, aiming to exploit synergistic effects that allow reduced doses of each drug with comparable or superior efficacy to single-agent therapy. The mechanisms combine curcumin’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects (modulating cytokines like TNF-alpha, IL-6, and NF-κB) with cyclosporine’s immunosuppression (primarily by blocking calcineurin and inhibiting T-lymphocyte activation)[1][5][6][8].
