Overview

Curcumin + piperine is a combination of two natural compounds—curcumin (the principal active component of turmeric) and piperine (an alkaloid from black pepper)—used primarily as a dietary supplement. Curcumin possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic, and potential anticancer properties but suffers from poor bioavailability when taken alone. Piperine acts as a bioenhancer by significantly increasing the absorption and systemic availability of curcumin in the body[5][6]. This synergistic effect enhances the therapeutic potential of both compounds. The combination has been studied for its effects on pain management (antionociceptive), inflammation reduction, joint health (notably arthritis), digestive support, cognitive function enhancement, cardiovascular health improvement, chemopreventive activity against various cancers (including colorectal cancer), and possible benefits in neurodegenerative diseases[2][3][4][5][6]. Mechanistically, both act on multiple molecular targets involved in inflammation pathways; piperine also inhibits hepatic metabolism enzymes that would otherwise rapidly degrade curcumin.
