Curcumin-phosphatidylcholine + boswellia-phosphatidylcholine is an investigational oral combination nutraceutical formulation being evaluated by the Henry Ford Health System for the treatment of subjective tinnitus in adults with sensorineural hearing loss. The product, provided by Smartceuticals, Inc., utilizes phytosome technology—complexing curcumin and boswellia extracts with phosphatidylcholine—to significantly enhance the systemic bioavailability of these natural compounds. The therapeutic rationale is based on the potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of curcuminoids and boswellic acids, which are hypothesized to modulate neuro-inflammatory pathways and oxidative stress within the auditory system that contribute to phantom sound perception. It is currently being assessed in randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials using validated measures such as the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI) and Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI).
