Overview

Cutibacterium acnes lysin + ClyO is a preclinical-stage antimicrobial biologic therapy being developed by Lysigen (now part of PrecisioBiotix) for the treatment of acne. The drug is a combination of lysin-based antimicrobial enzymes, specifically a Cutibacterium acnes-targeting lysin and ClyO. Its mechanism of action involves the enzymatic degradation of the peptidoglycan layer within the cell wall of Cutibacterium acnes bacteria, leading to rapid osmotic lysis and bacterial death. This first-in-class approach is designed to precisely target the primary pathogen associated with acne pathogenesis while potentially preserving the beneficial skin microbiome and avoiding the resistance issues common with conventional antibiotics.
