Cyclopentolate + phenylephrine is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic solution used to induce mydriasis (pupil dilation) for diagnostic eye examinations. Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic agent that relaxes the sphincter muscle of the iris, leading to pupil dilation and some paralysis of accommodation (cycloplegia). Phenylephrine is an adrenergic agonist that stimulates alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the dilator muscle of the iris, causing further pupil dilation through vasoconstriction.
