This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three agents: - Cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA and prevents cancer cell division. - Doxorubicin (also known as Adriamycin), an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals to damage cellular components. - Capecitabine (brand name Xeloda), an oral prodrug converted to 5-fluorouracil in the body, which acts as an antimetabolite inhibiting thymidylate synthase and interfering with DNA synthesis. This combination is not a standard named regimen but represents a logical extension of established regimens such as AC (Adriamycin/doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide) or CAF (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin/Adriamycin, fluorouracil). Capecitabine is sometimes used in place of intravenous 5-fluorouracil for its oral administration route. The primary indication for these drugs individually or in combination regimens is breast cancer—especially early-stage or metastatic disease. Each drug attacks cancer cells via different mechanisms at various points in the cell cycle[1][2][9].
