This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four drugs: - Cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA, leading to cell death. - Doxorubicin (also known as hydroxydaunorubicin or Adriamycin), an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, causing DNA damage and apoptosis. - Etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor that prevents the re-ligation of DNA strands during replication, resulting in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. - Prednisone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. This combination is used as part of multi-agent chemotherapy protocols for aggressive lymphomas (such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma) and other hematologic malignancies. The regimen may be referred to by acronyms such as CHEP (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, etoposide, prednisone) or similar variants when vincristine is not included[3]. Each drug targets cancer cells through different mechanisms to maximize cytotoxicity while minimizing resistance. The regimen is typically administered in cycles every 2–3 weeks[8][3].
