Cyclophosphamide + doxorubicin + vincristine is a combination chemotherapy regimen commonly referred to as CAV. It consists of three cytotoxic agents: - **Cyclophosphamide**: an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and RNA transcription, leading to cell death. - **Doxorubicin**: an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, preventing DNA replication and repair. - **Vincristine**: a vinca alkaloid that binds to tubulin and inhibits microtubule formation, arresting cells in metaphase during mitosis. This combination is used primarily for the treatment of small cell lung cancer (SCLC), particularly in extensive disease settings. It has also been studied or used in other cancers such as lymphomas. The drugs act synergistically by targeting different cellular processes essential for cancer cell survival[5][8].
