Overview
This combination therapy consists of the standard CHOP chemotherapy regimen—comprising cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin (hydroxydaunorubicin), vincristine (Oncovin), and prednisone—administered alongside the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) lansoprazole. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and other forms of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. The rationale for adding lansoprazole to the cytotoxic CHOP regimen is based on the hypothesis that PPIs can modulate the acidic tumor microenvironment or inhibit V-ATPase, potentially enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy and overcoming drug resistance. This specific adjuvant approach was evaluated in a comparative clinical study led by Sherief Abd-Elsalam to assess the benefits of PPIs versus H2-receptor antagonists in lymphoma patients.
