This is a combination regimen consisting of four drugs—cyclophosphamide, epirubicin, fluorouracil (also known as 5-fluorouracil), and tamoxifen—used primarily in the treatment of breast cancer. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication. Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that inhibits topoisomerase II and intercalates into DNA. Fluorouracil is a pyrimidine analog that inhibits thymidylate synthase and disrupts DNA synthesis. Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that acts as an antagonist on estrogen receptors in breast tissue. The combination of these agents provides both cytotoxic chemotherapy (CEF) and hormonal therapy (tamoxifen), improving survival outcomes for patients with node-positive or metastatic breast cancer[1][2][3]. This regimen has been studied extensively in randomized clinical trials.
