Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of cyclophosphamide, filgrastim, and mitoxantrone. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA, leading to cell death. Mitoxantrone is an anthracenedione antineoplastic agent that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, resulting in inhibition of DNA replication and repair. Filgrastim is a recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) that stimulates the production of neutrophils from the bone marrow to reduce the risk of neutropenia associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy. This combination has been studied primarily for use in advanced or high-risk breast cancer to allow higher dose intensity by mitigating hematologic toxicity[1][2][3].
