This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three drugs: - Cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and RNA transcription, leading to cell death. - Fluorouracil (5-fluorouracil), an antimetabolite that inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and function. - Prednisone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. The combination is used primarily in the treatment of advanced breast cancer and has also been studied in other solid tumors. The regimen aims to exploit the synergistic effects of these agents for greater antitumor activity. In clinical trials, this combination (often referred to as CFP) has shown objective regression rates in advanced breast cancer patients[5]. The addition of prednisone may help manage toxicity or enhance efficacy but does not always improve survival outcomes[1][5].
