Overview

This combination therapy consists of metronomic cyclophosphamide and interferon-alpha, being investigated for the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors. Metronomic cyclophosphamide involves the continuous administration of low-dose cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent, which at these doses acts primarily as an immunomodulator by depleting regulatory T cells (Tregs) and as an anti-angiogenic agent. Interferon-alpha is a cytokine that exerts anti-proliferative effects and enhances the immune response against tumor cells. The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Besancon is evaluating this combination to determine if the two agents provide a synergistic immunomodulatory effect in patients with metastatic or locally advanced neuroendocrine tumors.
