Overview
CMF is a chemotherapy regimen consisting of three drugs: cyclophosphamide, methotrexate, and fluorouracil. Cyclophosphamide is an alkylating agent that stops cancer cells from reproducing by cross-linking DNA strands. Methotrexate and fluorouracil are antimetabolite chemotherapies; both inhibit DNA synthesis and repair, leading to cell death during division. This combination exploits different mechanisms to maximize cancer cell kill and reduce resistance. CMF is primarily used for early-stage breast cancer but may also be used in metastatic settings or other cancers[1][3][4]. Each drug in the combination has been individually approved by regulatory agencies for use in cancer therapy[3].
