This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three agents: - **Cyclophosphamide** is an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication and transcription by cross-linking DNA strands, leading to cell death. - **Paclitaxel** is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their disassembly, thereby blocking cell division during mitosis. - **Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin** is an anthracycline antibiotic encapsulated in liposomes with polyethylene glycol (PEG), which enhances drug delivery to tumors while reducing cardiotoxicity. Doxorubicin intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, preventing DNA replication and repair. This combination targets rapidly dividing cancer cells through multiple mechanisms—DNA damage (cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin), inhibition of mitosis (paclitaxel), and enhanced tumor targeting/reduced toxicity via the pegylated formulation. It has been primarily investigated for breast cancer treatment in adjuvant or neoadjuvant settings.
