Cyclosporine + etanercept is a combination therapy involving two immunosuppressive agents with distinct mechanisms of action, used primarily in the management of severe autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and plaque psoriasis. Cyclosporine is a calcineurin inhibitor that suppresses T-cell activation by inhibiting interleukin-2 production, while etanercept is a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitor by binding to TNF-alpha and preventing its interaction with cell surface receptors. The combination has been studied for patients who have an inadequate response to monotherapy, particularly in cases where rapid or enhanced disease control is needed. Clinical studies suggest this regimen can provide synergistic effects, leading to faster and more effective symptom control than either agent alone; however, it may also increase the risk of infections due to combined immunosuppression[4][6].
